Introducing our Newest Community Program – Laughter Care at Home

Join our newest community program for people living with dementia and their carer, in partnership with The Humour Foundation

In this series of workshops, carers will experience and learn how to build fun, joy and laughter into their care. We will help you uncover, or rediscover, your ability to play by sharing the techniques and principles used in The Humour Foundation’s very successful Laughter Care program. Laughter Care has been delivered in residential aged care homes for over 13 years, including 10 years at Lulworth House, to help build connection and play in the delivery of care to improve the psychological and social wellbeing of older Australians.

In these workshops we will share our techniques and principles for inspiring connection, joy and laughter with people living with dementia and their carers.

By bringing carers and their loved ones together we will:

  • Facilitate moments of joy, play and laughter for carers and their loved ones;
  • Equip carers with techniques to bring more playfulness into their role as carers at home;
  • Give carers the confidence to use these techniques having experienced them directly in the workshops; and
  • Enhance the self-care of carers though the rejuvenating power of play.

 The workshops will be activity-based; participants will learn by doing. This will include games, exercises, singing, storytelling and reminiscence.

The principles and techniques being explored will include: Waiting/Listening; Affirmation; Saying Yes, not No; Yes, and…; Imaginative journeys and Compliments to name a few. We will also explore expressiveness and creativity through theatre games, gesture, voice, props and role play.

Above all they will be workshops full of fun!
